E-Mobility-Rentals – Scalable E-Mobility for Europe’s Businesses and Cities
Delivery services are performing at an all-time high and are still growing: In the EU, home delivery is expected to reach a 30% share of all retail sales by 2030. With a growing transportation market, a central challenge arise: How manage urban delivery in a cost-effective while maintain a low carbon footprint?
In today’s interview with Eduard Anghel, CEO of the Romanian Startup E-Mobility-Rentals, we learn how they created an ecosystem of electric vehicles to solve urban mobility.
1. Why did you start your startup?
Do you remember those pandemic days where everything just stopped? Even the most congested and crowded cities in the world like New York, Delhi, Tokio or London completely quieted. It was then when it all clicked for me. The food delivery market just boomed back then. I remember I was watching our cities only being crossed by delivery vehicles. The irony of those days was that we had cleaner air from lockdowns, yet more vehicles than ever were racing to deliver our essentials. I guess this is when it hit me: we could write a different story.
E-Mobility-Rentals started with a simple belief – that busy cities don’t necessarily have to be polluted cities, right? I was looking at delivery riders hustling and thought: “What if every one of these vehicles could be clean and green?” It wasn’t just about building a business. I am genuinely passionate and preoccupied with a clean environment and a greener planet, so it also was about making our home cities better places to live. And so, E-Mobility-Rentals was born.
2. What is your product?
You know how frustrating it is when your phone cable doesn’t fit another device? That’s exactly what we’re solving in e-mobility, but on a much bigger scale. We’ve created a complete ecosystem with a wide range of over 20 different types of electric vehicles (one wheel, two wheels, three wheels and four wheels) that can all function on a universal battery. This battery works across small scooters to delivery vans. Moreover, we dare to say that we’re creating the newest electric swapping infrastructure worldwide. Judging by the feedback we got from the market, it’s a game changer for the clean tech industry. In our vision, this is the future of e-mobility.
At the heart of it all is our universal battery-swapping network (Swap Stations is how we call them), allowing drivers to quickly exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones, eliminating downtime and extending operational hours, thus making more money faster. A bit like having a gas station that works for every type of vehicle in our fleet.
Bottom line is that our secret lies in having connected all the dots. From the vehicles themselves to the power that keeps them moving, from maintenance checks to insurance coverage – we’ve got it all together into one smooth operation.
3. What are the advantages of your approach?
We didn’t just want to make electric mobility possible. We wanted to make it simple. To take away the headaches. No more range anxiety, no more hunting for charging stations, no more juggling multiple systems. When we say we handle everything, we mean everything. It’s like having a dedicated team whose only job is to keep your business moving forward, sustainably.
We handle the complex stuff so our clients can focus on growing their business. And the best part? Every delivery becomes a small victory for the environment, while helping our companies rise up their ESG score, a crucial aspect in today’s corporate world.
Because at the end of the day, we believe making the switch to sustainable mobility shouldn’t feel like a challenge. It should feel like an upgrade.
4. Which challenges do you face?
Let’s be honest. We’re doing something that hasn’t been done before. And of course that comes with its share of puzzles to solve. Research and development are very important to us so we pay a lot of attention to it. We need to make sure that each new vehicle type we add to our system is completely integrated. It’s like solving a new Rubik’s cube – it takes patience, precision and plenty of testing to get it right.
On the other hand, each country – and sometimes each region – brings unique regulatory hurdles demanding that we not only meet, but often exceed local standards. It’s like learning to dance to different music in each market. But these challenges don’t slow us down, they make us more innovative and more resilient. They fuel our creativity and commitment. Each solution we develop for one country helps us become better equipped for the next country we expand into.
I believe innovation isn’t a straight path and our journey is no exception.
5. What are your future plans?
The climate crisis does not wait for anyone. So we’re pressured to dream big, envisioning a world where green mobility is the norm, not the exception. While we’re proud of our European roots, we see opportunities to make a difference globally. We’re thinking about expanding all over Europe, then North America and the Middle East. In all these regions we see enormous potential for sustainable last-minute solutions.
So that our business is scalable for international growth, we are also thinking about combining direct operations and franchise models. We’re building a platform that any city can adopt to make their deliveries cleaner and their air fresher. Every battery we swap isn’t just powering a vehicle, it’s energizing a vision of cities where economic growth and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
Think of it as planting seeds for a future where zero-emission deliveries are as normal as smartphones are today. And we’re just getting started.
